Dorothy Lois Nickel was born on August 25, 1929 in Reedley, California to Nick and Agatha Boldt. At an early age she put her trust in Jesus as her Savior and Lord. Subsequently, she was baptized in the Kings River, she attended Dinuba MB church where she met Paul Nickel in the nursery (he was 3 months older than her) they started dating in High School (Immanuel) and were married on December 28, 1948 at the age of 19.
During the next 20 years she was a farmers wife and gave birth to her three children, Randy, Gail, and Darrell. She was very involved in her children's spiritual life and played a major role in them coming to know Jesus. She also helped with some farming work such as hauling cotton trailers to the gin.
Financial setbacks forced them to move on from farming and in 1968 she began the life of a newspaper wife. However, she was much more than just a wife as she ran a route for a time, did all the monthly billings, and made sure they had enough money to pay the monthly paper bill.
Around 2000 she began to slowly lose strength in her legs, a condition that slowly got worse and lasted the rest of her life. In 2005, her husband and life long companion died, leaving an empty spot in the heart. The remaining years were very difficult for her as on many occasions she would say, "I wish Paul were here to tell me what to do." During this time she began writing poems for special times like her birthdays, christmas, etc. She went home to be with Jesus on January 21, 2023 at the age of 93. She leaves behind her 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
