Gilbert Garza Cortez

Gilbert Cortez, 86, of Orosi, passed away on 11/9/2021.

He passed away in Orosi, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters, due to complications in relation to COVID-19.

Gilbert was born in San Benito, Texas to Gregorio and Francisca Cortez. Throughout his life, Gilbert had various jobs. He was a cook, cars salesman, and then went on to become one of the best car mechanics known. Later in life, he pursued his true passion, which was music. He established his own recording studio in his home where beautiful (and not so beautiful) music was created.

In his 30's he met Dolores. They fell in love and started a family, complete with four daughters, Martha, Maribel, Elizabeth (Liz), and Anali. Gilbert was a strict but loving father. Being a dependable father was of the utmost importance, and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.

In addition to his partner, Dolores, and children, Martha, Maribel, Liz and Anali, Gilbert is survived by his only son, Gilbert Jr., and daughters Linda Ann, Christina, Melissa, Nellie, Cindi, and Denise. His brothers John and Tony, and sisters Corina, Lupe, and Feliciana. He was preceded in passing by his brothers Joe and Romero.

The funeral service will be held at Smith Mountain Cemetery on 11/18/2021 starting with a church service at St Catherine’s Church in Dinuba at 10 am. There will be visitation at Dopkins Funeral Chapel in Dinuba on 11/17/21 from 4-7pm. His family will be present to welcome loved ones.

I Remember when Gilbert brought his Texas children to Uncle John's house in Dinuba to live for a bit. We had a blast. I remember when I would go on rides out to Seville and could see his four very young daughters with Blonde hair. He was a real nice man that I remember and Uncle John and Aunt Becky Loved all of you very much.
