Hope Martinez, “Esperanza The Legend”, homemaker, age 98, was taken home peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on July 26, 2022, at 4 PM. She was born on November 11, 1923, in Helena Montana and raised in Texas where she met, at the age of 15, her husband Simon Martinez (deceased) and they married and had their first child Mary Aviles (deceased). Then they moved to Nebraska where they had their second child Josephine Villegas. As migrant workers they moved to California in 1941, their next three children were born in Dinuba California; Louise Orosco, Linda Marquez (deceased) and Jesse O. Martinez (deceased) they traveled throughout California as migrant farmworkers until they settled in East Orosi, California where they built their first home. There she had her last child Connie Pasillas at the age of 30. All her children were delivered at home by her midwife mother-in-law, Dorathea Jaramillo. Hope blessed to have lived long enough to see a legacy of six generations. Hope was beloved by many. A few terms of endearment were Grandma Hope, Hot Cookie Tia, Wella, Media Naranja, Queen Bee, La Chula, Preciosa, La Bonita, La Princesa, La Reina. She was loving, glamorous, witty, funny, intelligent, wise, strong, determined, observant, intuitive, firm, brutally honest, creative, a great cook and a shopaholic. She was stylish and always looked her best. Hope loved parties, special occasions, gatherings, and people watching.
