Joyce Ann Whitaker

Born July 28th, 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Luella and Lawrence Risem. When she was 20, she met Loyal Murphy in Vista, California. They married and had 3 children: Pamela Ann Murphy, Gary Glen Murphy, and Larry Greg Murphy. She divorced Loyal in 1973. She met the love of her life in 1976 to Jerry Lee Whitaker. They married on September 3, 1978 and stayed married until her death September 20, 2020. Jerry had 5 children from his previous marriage. So, they became the Murphy-Whitaker Bunch. There was John Lee, Lori, Jeri Lynn, Kristy Ann, and Jodi. Jerrys kids were younger than moms so being true to who she was she raised his kids and instilled the same love and wisdom she gave to her kids. She as was there for any one of the children no matter what the problem was. She was kind and understanding of any problems or difficulties that arose. Joyce and Jerry enjoyed life to the fullest. Joyce managed apartments, and Jerry was in construction until later he joined her in the apartment managing. They loved to ride motorcycles, country western dancing, water skiing, and traveling around the country. Her passion was her husband and was by his side until she got sick in 2010. Then it was he that cared for her. Then in 2010 Pamela moved to live near her Mom and as a nurse helped Jerry take care of her. It was a rough road to see a vibrant woman destroyed by dementia. The children and Jerry will miss her so much, but they are glad she is with her Lord Jesus Christ. All of them will carry the wisdom of her special sayings, her odd humor, and her huge loving heart wherever they will go. She loved life and had no place for self-pity. Her strength will live on in all of them. We look forward to the new adventures she has for us in the next life. See you soon Mom.
