Richard A. Harrison

Richard (Dick) Alan Harrison passed away at Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia, CA on Sunday, November 22, 2020 after suffering a catastrophic brain bleed on Nov. 20th. Raised a Quaker, he was born Jan. 3, 1935 in Whittier, CA to Russell Earl and Hilda (Hickman) Harrison. He attended Los Nietos Grammar School while living on the Baldy View Dairy with his older sister, Suzanne, and his parents. There were many cousins and extended family gatherings in his developing years. Upon graduation from Whittier High School, he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before transferring to George Fox College in Oregon. During his college years, he understood the need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior. He eventually graduated from Fresno State University and began farming in Orosi, CA with citrus trees. On Dec. 30, 1961, he was united in marriage to Valorie June Harder at the Dinuba Mennonite Brethren Church. Four children were born to this union. The family lived in Dinuba where Richard grew cotton and then was a Sun-Maid raisin grower for 30 years. He was employed by Dinuba Lumber Company for a time as well. A humble, dedicated Christian man, he served on the church Mission Board, Immanual High School Board, Open Gate Ministries Board, Mennonite Disaster Service, and was instrumental in the growth of Templo Calvario Church. Following the death of Valorie in 2005, he began courting Erma Jean Brumley of Visalia and they were married July 28, 2007. They shared 13 years together, wintering in Casa Grande, AZ and traveling to visit family when not residing in Visalia. Preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Dahlgren; he is survived by his wife, Erma Jean, and her children, Sheryl (Reggie) Powers of Joplin, MO, and Leslie (Sherry) Brumley of Visalia, six step-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren; his daughter, Carol (Dan) Schmidt of Richland, MO, son Raymond of Porterville, CA, son Daniel (Tracey) Harrison of Gilbert, AZ, and six grandchildren; his sister, Suzanne Wasson of Alta Dena, CA, four beloved nephews and one niece’s families, and many others.
